John Burgess of Delaware Co., Indiana

John Burgess I was born about 1770 in Pennsylvania. He married Ann __ about 1810 (she was born 18 October 1776, and died on 12 September 1844). He is listed in the 1805 tax list and 1810 census of Addison Township, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania, with one son and two daughters under the age of 10, and the parents aged 26-45; in 1820 in Jefferson Co., Ohio, with three sons under the age of 10, two daughters, and two men aged 26-45; in 1830 in Muskingum Co., Ohio, with two sons aged 15-20 and one aged 20-30, and John aged 60-70; and in 1840 in Delaware Co., Indiana, with one son aged 20-30, and John aged 60-70; he has not been found in 1850. He purchased land in Delaware Co. on 10 November 1840. He died there on 12 March 1856, having had at least three sons, all of them born in Pennsylvania:

1. Joseph Burgess I (1809/11-1886) of Jewell Co., KS
2. James Burgess (1813?-1860+) of Delaware Co., IN; he purchased land in Delaware Co. on 20 September 1839, with James being listed as a resident of Licking Co., Ohio

Third Branch: David Burgess

David Burgess was born on 23 June 1815, probably in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Bryan on 10 December 1840 in Delaware Co., Indiana. He is listed in the 1850-70 censuses of Delaware Co.; his widow appears as head of the family in 1880. He died there on 15 May 1879, having had three sons:

1. John Burgess II (1842-1897) of Delaware Co., IN
2. Joseph Burgess II (1851-1928) of Lake Co., IN; he married Elizabeth Ann Moore on 24 April 1885 in Benton Co., OR
3. George McClelland Burgess (1863-1878), died young

Joseph Burgess II is the ancestor of K. Burgess.
