He is listed in the 1841-61 censuses for St. Mary, Islington, Middlesex Co., England. He worked as a legal clerk and cashier. He died there about 1862, having had at least four sons, one by his first wife, and three by his second:

Robert Burgess (also called Robert William Burgess by his descendants) was born 1860 at Islington, Middlesex Co., England. He married Jane Emmerson in 1881, and secondly Lydia Wheeler after 1901. He is listed in the 1891 census for Islington, London, England, and in 1901 at Edmonton, Middlesex Co., England. He later moved to Blackley, Lancashire Co., where he died in mid-1932, having had at least two sons, both by his second wife:

2. Robert William Burgess Jr. (1909-1987) of Manchester, England

Robert William Burgess Jr. is the ancestor of G. Burgess.
